Question 1

How do I switch the interface language, and which languages are supported?

Accepted Answer

PDF Toolkit 2.0 supports five interface languages: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. The app auto-selects your system language on first launch, and you can change it any time in Settings > Language. Page number styles and output fonts follow the selected language as well.

Question 2

How is Redaction different from a watermark, and can redacted content be recovered?

Accepted Answer

A watermark only overlays the page, so the original content is still there. Redaction actually removes the marked text, images, and vector content from the file, so it cannot be recovered, copied, or searched. Use redaction to permanently remove sensitive information such as personal data, amounts, or confidential clauses, and use watermarks when you only need to label a document.

Question 3

Do PAdES digital signatures require uploading a certificate or a file?

Accepted Answer

No. PAdES signing is fully local: choose a certificate file (.p12, .pfx) or a PKCS#11 smart card, and the signature includes timestamps, long-term validation data, and archive timestamps, with optional visible signature fields. Signature integrity and signer verification also happen on your computer - certificates, private keys, and documents never leave your device.

Question 4

How do I restore a purchase?

Accepted Answer

Open the Settings or Store page inside the app and click Restore Purchase:
• macOS: the app validates the license through the Apple ID you are signed in with and restores automatically.
• Windows: the app confirms the license through your Microsoft account and restores automatically.

Question 5

What should I do if the app crashes or stops working?

Accepted Answer

First update the app to the latest store version. If the problem remains, restart your device. If it still persists, email bitdect@gmail.com with the steps you took and we will fix it as soon as possible.

Question 6

Does PDF Toolkit upload my files when encrypting, signing, or watermarking?

Accepted Answer

Never. PDF Toolkit processes everything 100% locally. AES-256 encryption, redaction, PAdES digital signatures, page numbers, and watermarks all run on your own Mac or Windows PC. The app works fully offline, so your sensitive files, signatures, and passwords never leave your device.

Question 7

Can I use my own fonts for signatures, page numbers, or watermarks?

Accepted Answer

In the matching settings panel, click Upload font or Choose font to import a standard font file (.ttf or .otf) from your Mac or Windows PC. The font is parsed locally and embedded into the exported PDF. If you do not choose one, the CJK fonts bundled with 2.0 keep five-language output clean.

Question 8

Will compressing a PDF reduce its quality? How small can it get?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the level you choose. Light and Recommended keep the original text and image resolution, with almost no visible change; High and Extreme resample images for email attachments and strict upload limits. You can also set a custom 1-99% ratio, and CMYK print files keep their original color data.

Question 9

How do I merge or split PDFs on a Mac?

Accepted Answer

Drag several PDF, JPG, or PNG files into the "Add, Merge, Split and Organize PDF" window and they merge automatically. In the same window you can click page thumbnails to split, delete, insert, or drag pages into a new order, with list view and shortcut undo. Everything runs locally.

Question 10

I forgot the password of my encrypted PDF. Can it be recovered?

Accepted Answer

No. AES-256 encryption in PDF Toolkit never stores, sends, or backs up your password, so neither the app nor the developer can restore it. Keep passwords in a password manager - if the password is lost, the file cannot be opened again by us.

Question 11

Which platforms and languages are supported? Does it cost anything?

Accepted Answer

macOS 10.15 or later (Mac App Store) and Windows 10/11 (Microsoft Store), with five interface languages: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Try every feature free for 7 days, then a one-time purchase (not a subscription), restorable with your Apple ID or Microsoft account.

Question 12

Can I edit the text inside a PDF?

Accepted Answer

PDF Toolkit works at page and file level: merge, split, compress, convert, encrypt, redact, sign, page numbers, watermarks, and metadata. It is not a paragraph text editor. To change wording, edit the source document (for example in Word) and export a new PDF.
